喜多見 奈緒子
"Westinホテル研修を終えて"

インターンシップについて 喜多見 奈緒子 I worked at the Westin Hotel as an intern for three months. My workplace was mainly the Human Resources division, so I worked for the employees instead of serving guests. A lot of employees came to the office and I tried to help them, so I was able to get to know different employees. I have noticed some differences between American and Japanese hotels, and I have learned a lot from the experiences.

The people working in Human Resources were cheerful and always made my job enjoyable. They had a good relationship with the employees too. I felt that they were friendlier to employees than people who work in HR in Japan. The HR office is located next to the door for employees at the Westin Hotel, so the employees can call on the office easily. I think that is a good idea. In Japan, the HR office was usually located in the back area, so it was hard to communicate with people who worked in HR.

I was surprised by how many foreign employees were working at the Westin Hotel. I was also surprised that people of all ages were working there. In Japan, hotel employees basically consist of younger people and there are not so many older people. But at the Westin Hotel, many older people were working in several departments. This is a difference between America and Japan.

I learned what the hotel does for its employees. For example, they have a luncheon every month for some of the employees, and they have celebrations for employees who have been working there for over five years. I had never seen such events in Japan. It seemed that the hotel truly recognized how important the employees are for them.

I am really glad that I was able to work at such a nice hotel in America. I had a wonderful experience. Thank you very much for giving me this special opportunity.
